Ernestine Romero was born July 10, 1987 into a musical family and her passion for music blossomed at a young age when she watched her father's band and was inspired by him to pursue a career in music. She also loved and admired Selena and knew the stage is where she belonged. She began her professional career when she was eight years old and released her first album when she was eleven. She began performing and gaining a loyal following while becoming known as "La Jovencita".

Ernestine released ten albums throughout her musical career working with a wide range of talented musicians from around the world. Ernestine gained an international fan base which were very dear to her and she enjoyed interacting with her fans everywhere she performed or appeared.

 

Her ninth album “Gracias Senor” was named after the duet song she did with two time Grammy Award winner Ruben Ramos, “El Gato Negro”. He included this song on his album "Inolvidable" which was released in 2022. Ernestine’s final album entitled "Mi Tesoro" was in celebration of her 20 Year Anniversary recording music.

 

Ernestine won many awards throughout the course of her illustrious career for singing, writing, and producing her music that incorporated elements of many diverse musical styles which created her own unique sound including "CD of the Year", "Cumbia Song of the Year", and "Salsa Tropical Song of the Year" at the 2016 New Mexico Hispano Music Association Music Awards. She was also nominated for "Female Vocalist of the Year" at the Tejano Music Awards in 2016. Ernestine was awarded posthumously:

 

  • Vocal Duo of the Year" at the 2020 Tejano Music Awards with the Tejano Hall of Fame artist Shell Lares for the song "Estupida".

  • "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the New Mexico Hispano Music Awards in 2020

  • Induction in the 2021 class of the "New Mexico Music Hall of Fame"

  • "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the All-Star Music Awards in San Antonio 2021

On July 11th, 2019, Ernestine was a victim of domestic violence and tragically her life was lost. Ernestine’s family has preserved her legacy through the creation of the Ernestine Romero Memorial Foundation and continuing to make her merchandise and music available. Funds raised through this foundation will be granted to support local domestic violence organizations and provide scholarship opportunities to high school seniors. Donations can be made at:
